AI Trading Journal: Connect ChatGPT and Claude to Your Trades

Simple Trading Journal is a trading journal you can connect to ChatGPT and Claude. On the Pro plan you create a key, connect it once and ask questions such as "What cost me the most this month?"; the answer comes from your real trades, not from guesses. It works with ChatGPT (a custom GPT), Claude Code, Claude Desktop and Cursor. Pro costs $14.99 a month or $119 a year, and you can try it for 3 days without a card.

What the AI does in your journal

  • AI review of your whole history: strengths, leaks and personal recommendations.
  • One rule to focus on: the AI suggests a single trading rule from your own numbers; once you accept it, the journal counts in how many trades you kept it.
  • Questions about your trades inside the journal, up to 20 a day.
  • A connection to ChatGPT and Claude, so you can ask from the AI you already use.

Which trading journal can I connect to ChatGPT or Claude?

Simple Trading Journal gives every Pro journal its own key. The same key works in two ways: as a ChatGPT Action (a REST API described in an OpenAPI file) and as an MCP server for Claude and other MCP apps. One key sees only the one journal you choose.

How to connect ChatGPT

  1. In the journal open "AI connection" and create a key for one journal. The key is shown only once; copy it.
  2. In ChatGPT create a new GPT, open Actions and choose "Import from URL". Paste https://www.simpletradejournal.io/openapi.json.
  3. Under Authentication choose API Key, Auth Type Bearer, and paste your key.
  4. Ask your GPT about your trades, for example "Which setup lost the most money this month?"

How to connect Claude (MCP)

The journal runs an MCP server at https://www.simpletradejournal.io/api/mcp. In Claude Code, paste the command below into your terminal and replace KEY with your key. Claude Desktop and Cursor connect through "mcp-remote" with the same address and an "Authorization: Bearer KEY" header.

claude mcp add --transport http simple-trading-journal https://www.simpletradejournal.io/api/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer KEY"

What the AI can read

  • Overall statistics: win rate, net profit and loss, profit factor, average R, maximum drawdown, results by symbol and by setup.
  • Your recent trades with symbol, direction, risk, profit or loss, R, costs and preset mistake tags (up to 50 per request).
  • How much each preset mistake tag (moved stop, revenge trade and so on) cost you.
  • A discipline summary: trades that broke your habits (overtrading, revenge, size jumps) against clean trades.

What is never sent

Only trade numbers (symbol, direction, risk, profit or loss, R, date) and the preset mistake tags are sent. Your notes, day notes, photos and custom tags are never sent. The AI service you use (for example OpenAI or Anthropic) handles the data under its own terms.

Can the AI add trades to my journal?

Only if you allow it. Each key has an "Allow writing" switch, off by default. When it is on, the AI can add trades, notes and preset mistake tags; it can never delete or change what is already there. The AI is told to show you a preview and save only after you confirm. Added trades are marked "added by AI" and you can delete them in bulk. Up to 100 writes a day.

Free or Pro?

All AI features are part of Pro. The Free plan stays free for good with 1 journal and 2 trades a day, and it already includes MetaTrader auto-sync, importing, all statistics, the calendar and discipline analysis. No card is needed for Free or for the 3-day Pro trial.

Limits

  • 300 requests a day per key.
  • If you leave Pro, your keys stop working.
  • Custom connectors on the claude.ai website do not accept keys yet, so they are not supported; use Claude Code, Claude Desktop or Cursor.
  • An AI can misread numbers. Check important figures in the journal itself. Nothing here is investment advice.
